The requirements for the PABP are derived from the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). The PCI DSS, which can be found at www.pcisecuritystandards.org, details the requirements for PCI compliance (and therefore what a payment application must support to facilitate an application user’s PCI compliance).

Utilizing secure payment applications in a PCI DSS compliant environment minimizes the potential for security breaches and compromises of full magnetic stripe data, card validation codes and values (CAV2, CID, CVC2, CVV2), PINs and PIN blocks.  Consequently, deployment of secure payment applications will significantly reduce the potential for brand-damaging fraud.
